Edmonton Decorator | Design Trends | Connect the Dots

The Polka Dot Door and More

I've been spotting them all over the place: blouses, scarves, shoes, purses, gloves and even on manicures. And what dominates in fashion, is soon to follow in home decor. What am I talking about? It's polka dots, of course!

I've gathered some of my favourite images that show the playfulness and versatility of the humble polka dot. From big to small. Bold to muted. There's a dot for just about every style.

Edmonton Decorator | Design Trend | Black Friday

Black Friday is here! No, not THAT Black Friday. That doesn't happen until November 29th.

Today I want to talk about painting walls black. Does the thought frighten you? Does it make you think of gothic decor or moody teenagers? I'm here to show you that painting or wallpapering your walls in black can be chic, elegant and timeless!

Edmonton Interior Decorator | How to Decorate if You Live in a Small Place

We don't all get to live in sprawling mansions and palatial paradises. So what's the average person to do when confronted with confined quarters?

Here are my top 10 tips for decorating small spaces:

 1. No room for end tables? Use wall space.

2. No room for dressers? Use a storage bed/ or under bed storage.

3. Break the rules! Take the door off. Paint horizontal stripes on the wall. Turn the bed into a day bed. Use creative storage solutions.

4. No room for an office? Turn your closet into a functional and fabulous work space.

5. Not one square inch to spare? Make your kitchen or dining room do double duty.

6. Want to make your mall space oh so chic? Don't be afraid of luxurious touches.

7. Have a puny powder room? Be bold! Just be mindful of the scale of things.

8. No formal entry way? Make one! A bench seat and a mirror will create a well defined space.

9. Low ceilings or small windows? Hang your curtains high! You can even do it in your bathroom.

10. Running out of places to sit? Cube or storage ottomans do double duty. Tuck them under a table when not in use.

Still have questions on how to spacify your small place? I'm available for both local and long distanct clients. Drop me a line or give me a call. :)

Edmonton Interior Decorator | Design Trend | Shower Curtain Panels

Say bye-bye to the single shower curtain and hello to curtain panels. This trend adds more style and glamour to your bathroom with very little cost.

When I go shopping, I am often disappointed with variety and options for shower curtains. They usually fall into three categories: a)Childish, b)Granny-ish, or c)White. Not exactly the perfect pick for every situation.

With the emergence of this new trend towards double panels, instead of one shower curtain, a new world of possibility opens up. Leave the "bath" aisle and head for "bed" and beyond to find new curtains for your washroom. And, as always, hang your curtains as high as possible to add visual height to your room.

Edmonton Interior Decorator | Design Trend | Sliding Barn Doors

Slide into a New Trend

There's nothing country about me, and I certainly wasn't raised in a barn. So why am I loving this new design trend of sliding barn doors? Because it's practical and fabulous! A lot of times, doors open into space and "eat up" valuable real estate. I am a huge fan of pocket doors, but if they aren't installed at the time of construction, it can be a project that most aren't willing to undertake. Well, hellooooo sliding barn doors. A brilliant solution with a fraction of the headaches of demolition and renovation. From urban contemporary to cottage classic, there is a barn door style to fit your home.
