Edmonton Interior Decorator | My Favourite Art | Pre-Raphaelite to Art Deco

My Top 10 Favourite Pieces of Art

I love artwork, and never seem to have enough wall space to hang the pieces I love. But, my tastes have evolved over the years, so the pieces I do like, have changed somewhat in nature.

When I was younger, I was enamoured with very "romantic" style paintings; from the Pre-Raphaelite and Renaissance era. Then, my focus shifted towards the Art Deco era. Which, still seems timeless to me.

And now, I'm finding myself drawn to more contemporary styles. But what remains constant throughout my life, is my subject of choice. I'm repeatedly drawn to human subjects (particularly the face) and architecture.

What kind of art inspires you?

Edmonton Interior Decorator | Client Moodboard | Modern Office Makeover

I have a brand new design client: ME! I've been so busy helping clients buy/sell homes as well as decorate/stage homes that I haven't had time for myself. I can definitely relate to the old saying "The cobbler's son has no shoes." Both my new home and office are in desperate need of attention. As my office space will get the most foot traffic, I thought I'd start there.

First, let me start with a photo tour of KENNEDY Real Estate's office. (If this is your first time reading this blog. I have a one-of-a-kind career as a REALTOR, Interior Decorator and Home Stager.)

#100, 8615-149 St. Edmonton, AB

Welcome to the "Big Apple"

Have a coffee and stay awhile

Lots o' brain storming happens here
My new real estate home

As you can see, KENNEDY Real Estate has quite a clean and contemporary look. It's an easy-to-work-with palette of black, white, grey and apple green. And fortunately for me, that's right up my alley.

Here's a sneak peek at what my office is going to look like: bold & graphic with an art deco twist.

When it's all done, will you come visit me? :)

Edmonton Interior Decorator | Design Style | Art Deco Design

Those who know me well, have heard me say that I was born at least 50 years too late. I'm in love with times past, and the 1920s-30s is no exception. The design style that evolved during this time was know as Art Deco. This "new age" style combined facets of the industrial age, along with geometric shapes and the charm of the silver screen.

Art Deco is famous for its use of high contrast colour schemes, industrial materials and clean lines. Typical decor elements would include: glass block, neon, chrome, mirrors and panels of opaque glass. Colour palettes would most likely include cool shades such as purple, green and black. Creamy neutrals and metallic accents would provide contrast to these dark shades.

If you're looking for a little touch of luxury, and striking elegance of the 20-30s, look to this moodboard for your inspiration.

Edmonton Interior Decorator | Artist Profile: Tamara de Lempicka

Tamara de Lempicka was an Art Deco artist known for her richly coloured, sensual portraits of women. Crisp lines and jewel tones are hallmarks of her work.

I have two of her prints, hanging above my sofa. They are my absolute favourites: Printemps (left) and Autoportrait (right).

Others, amongst my favourites, are:
